Eren Holding, a family-owned Turkish conglomerate, had just invested £1 billion in reviving the Shotton Mill site in North Wales.

The launch was a high-profile occasion attended by government ministers, business leaders, and local dignitaries, and the organisers needed a central display that would both introduce Eren to visitors and show that the company understood the site’s industrial legacy and future potential.

SEC Newgate commissioned me to design a large-scale visual timeline stretching the full length of the main event space. With only 48 hours from briefing to final artwork, I produced an 18-metre wall graphic that combined archive material, construction photography, and agency-supplied copy. Key information was positioned at head height for easy reading, and many of the archive images had to be carefully upscaled to print crisply at this scale.

The finished wall became the backdrop for speeches and interviews, featured prominently in BBC Wales coverage, and has since been installed permanently in the Shotton Mill visitor centre.

On the day

The launch event at Shotton Mill was well attended, widely covered and considered a success.

Lord Jones, the former MP for the area, spotted a photo of himself campaigning to save the steelworks from closure in 1979.
